Recipes for before & after birth..

Some great recipes for during pregnancy and postpartum..

Postpartum Placenta Smoothie
OK, so you or your client wants to eat the placenta raw, but you don’t know the best way to approach the actual consumption. Well, I have seen even the most skeptical mamas sipping this smoothie down postpartum without
batting an eye. This recipe, depending on the number of servings, also leaves placenta left over for encapsulation or
other uses.
For each serving of smoothie use the following:
• Thumb size piece of raw placenta
• 5 soaked dates, pitted and soft (to use as sweetener)
• 1 c. Almond, hemp, or coconut milk
• 1 frozen bananas
• 1 tsp vanilla
Blend and serve very cold. (This recipe works best if you have a high quality blender to really blend the piece of placenta. If you have a weaker blender cut up the placenta before blending into smaller pieces.)

Chocolate Bliss Balls
At farmer’s markets in every city someone is selling raw chocolates
and charging a dollar or two for a single truffle. Chocolate is an amazing
gift, but it doesn’t have to break your bank. If you buy some ingredients in
bulk you can eat this food of the gods for cheap. I am not much of one for
recipes so this is more of a general guideline. I make my chocolates by feel.
The more you make them the better they get and eventually you will find
the perfect combination. These Bliss Balls are also great midwife treats as
they hold an energy kick for late nights.
• 1 c. coconut oil, or coconut butter
• 1/3-1/2 c. (depending on preference) agave or raw honey
• 1/2 c. almond butter
• 1 tsp vanilla (you can substitute in peppermint oil, orange essence, or rose water for a different flavor)
• 3- 4 c. cocoa powder
• 1/2 c. cocoa or shredded coconut for rolling balls in
Optional add ins:
• 1/2 c. shredded coconut
• 1/4 c. black sesame seeds
• 1/4 c. ground coffee beans (for the tired postpartum papa)
• Dried berries/ fruit for topping: blueberries, goji, cranberries, etc.
In a large bowl mix the coconut oil, honey/agave syrup, almond butter and vanilla together until it is creamy and
pulling away from the side of the bowl.
Gently and slowly mix in the cocoa powder and add in the optional coconut or sesame seeds. Add in cocoa until
the mixture does not appear to be sticky, but holds together and is a bit stiff. Roll teaspoon size balls in your hands
drop them onto a plate of cocoa powder or coconut and roll to coat. Place in fridge for about one hour to harden. Remove from fridge 10 minutes before serving, or nibble on them cold. Enjoy
